Specialist Aromatherapy for people living with dementia

Aromatherapy is particularly beneficial for people with dementia as it can bring about a sense of relaxation and comfort, especially for those that experience symptoms of agitation or mood swings.  Simone has extensive experience of working with people with dementia and has provided aromatherapy treatment to hundreds of people in dozens of care homes and private settings.

Aromatherapy for People with Dementia in Suffolk

Simone has studied Dementia Care Mapping (DCM), an observational tool used to ensure that a person living with dementia has a holistic, person-centered approach to their care. DCM was devised at the University of Bradford by Professor Tom Kitwood and Dr Kathleen Bredin in response to the need to advocate for people lviving with dementia.  DCM ensures that the emotional, spiritual and social wellbeing of an individual is taken into account and it is used to help identify little things that can engender happiness; these can then be built upon to ensure people have an opportunity to experience well-being more often throughout their day.

Aromatherapy treatment for people with dementia consists of applying a specialist blend of essential oils to the hands, feet or forearms of the individual, which benefits them in a number of ways.  For example, the compounds in the essential oils can elicit feelings of relaxation and calm, and the time set aside to concentrate purely on the physical act of applying the essential oils is an interaction that focusses wholly on the wellbeing of the individual.

A full consultation will be undertaken to ascertain if aromatherapy is suitable for the person living with dementia.  Simone will then create a bespoke blend of oils for the individual and demonstrate how to apply the oils in your chosen environment.  Aromatherapy can â€‹delivered either in the home or in a care home setting.
